Most recipes call for onions, but onions do not agree with my stomac, what is a good substitute for onions?

leeks, same ';onion'; taste but milder

similar to a HUGE green onion

or put a halved onion in cheese cloth tied ( good technique for a soup or stew) to get the taste but not the actual onionMost recipes call for onions, but onions do not agree with my stomac, what is a good substitute for onions?
Shallots are the best substitute. Most recipes call for onions, but onions do not agree with my stomac, what is a good substitute for onions?
Use onion powder to get the taste, it won't be exact. Or something I do is chop up the onion into big chunks so I can remove it easily when the dish is done cooking. I get the taste but I don't eat the onions so no worry. For example I love chicken fajitas but I hate eating chunks of peppers or onions, but without the pepper or onion you don't get the flavor right, so I saute up the chicken with large chunks of peppers and onions and them take them out when it's done cooking.
I know you're going to think this is stupid...

But have you tried Vidalias or some other sweet onion? They usually have less acid then their hot counterparts, which could ease stomach discomfort. Plus they taste a lot better. Vidalias are only available in your produce department from April(ish) to October(ish), but in many grocery stores you can find them presliced and frozen.
Leeks have a slightly oniony flavour, and may work, depending upon what you are making.
It depends with what you are making but you can sub with leeks but in some foods it may taste funny in a good way or in abad way
