Hi All - I have recently bought my first slow cooker, and am waiting to be able to use it. I bought a fab book, and the recipe I am going to make tomorrow is Chicken Chowder. However I think that it sounds like this recipe could do with something else adding to it - i.e. rice. Can I add rice to any recipe? And if I am adding it to another recipe, do I add less water than if I were to make it on its own?
Sorry if this is confusing!
Thanks! Can I add rice to the existing recipes that I have for my slow cooker?
my advise is to cook the rice saperately and add it into the slow cooker when you are almost done.
If you cook the rice too long it'll become mush and you'll get porridge.......which is also fine if you like porridge.

I dont see you not I would put more liquid in the slow cooker the it calls for because the rice will use it up. Chicken broth would bve nice with the chicken chowder. I would atleast put in 3/4 of the amount of liquid that the rice calls for.
Hope that helps you
I would make the rice seperately and mix it in when you are ready to eat. If you cook the rice in the slow cooker it will become nothing but mush. If you still want to try it... the normal rice to water ratio for cooking is 1 1/2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice.
If you add rice in the start, it will be just mushy and not the typical rice you'd have. Wait until 45 min until the dish is done, than, you can add rice. This will ensure the texture of the rice.
